Youth bullying ‘worse for mental health’ than maltreatment by people


For the study, the researchers examined data taken from the US-based Great Smoky Mountain Study as well as the UK-based Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC study). Associations between childhood intimidation, maltreatment and long term mental health issues have been created. For the study, the researchers needed to learn whether the long term adverse effects of intimidation were due to combined exposure to maltreatment and intimidation or whether intimidation has its very own exceptional results. For the 1,273 participants of the Great Smoky Mountain Study, the researchers evaluated reports of maltreatment and 9 from intimidation -16 years and mental health consequences from 19-25 years of age.
