Studies suggest hope on horizon for PTSD patients


An expert in the area of post-traumatic stress disorder said preliminary studies indicate that new types of drugs and treatment offer hope for patients with the illness. Dr. Harry Croft said studies conducted by Clinical Trials of Texas demonstrate that patients with PTSD symptoms may profit from the new treatment. Former Marine Juan Alonzo-Miranda was diagnosed with PTSD following three tours in Iraq, has been treated for the illness since his discharge. He recently won a battle in federal court in which his employer refused to permit him to choose his service dog, which he said helps him cope together with the illness, to work. We want to do the right thing and that is to take care of our families, Miranda said. Discussing the severity of the illness, Miranda said, People are losing their battle with it and some end up committing suicide.
