Bill allows judges to consider PTSD as factor in sentencing veterans
His story was told, Marine Corps veteran Eric Pizer to 27 News in 2013 about hitting a guy during an after-pub altercation in Grant County, while on leave in 2004. Pizer considers he was suffering from PTSD at the period of the incident. Pizer has requested Gov. Walker for a forgiveness several times so that he can pursue a law enforcement profession, but Gov. Walker has said repeatedly he will not allow any pardons. Rep. Dianne Hesselbein (D Middleton) said the Pizer case haunts a constituent of hers who s also a veteran. And he said does it even need to get that way? If judges would take PTSD at the time of sentencing, consider that into account, would this have ever occurred to Eric Pizer?, requests Rep. Hesselbein, who started working on the bill after that dialogue. There is folks that do not believe this is a difficulty, do not believe it is a medical issue and it s. It certainly is, said Dane County Circuit Court Judge David Flanagan. Judge Flanagan runs a drug diversion court
