New Job And Advice

I ve agreed to take a job as a war correspondent in Ukraine. I ve already signed my resignation documents at my current job and am scheduled to leave Moscow in a couple of weeks. But now I am getting cold feet. I am due to sign more papers tomorrow that will cancel my visa, meaning once I sign them I can no longer reside in Russia legally. It s the final step and there is no going back. I am having cold feet, in part, because I will be leaving behind my ex-boyfriend, with whom I have... New Job And Advice

Grappling With Starting Cbt

This is a vague ramble through my responses to the first three weeks of CBT. Sorry it s long Finally! After three years of battling the NHS I am getting trauma focused CBT. But it is currently only scheduled for 16 weeks, and I can t believe that will magically be enough. I have to catch a bus there, but not from the side of the road where I had a bit of a flashback. I have to arrive in the town an hour early and it can be hard to find something to fill that hour that I can deal with. I... Grappling With Starting Cbt

Speachless...can You Help?

There are times that I am stunned by humanity. Just when I think I have it, someone goes and changes my perception so drastically....and that happened yesterday. I am in a dire situation. I have been since mid December. I am homeless, I am uncertain and feeling like a bother and wondering from one night to the next whether I will survive. I am wandering from spot to spot and it is having an effect on me. It is hard to really hold onto the healing I have done when I have such a... Speachless...can You Help?

I Enabled Him To Drink

Oh my. My suffering online friend is a recovering alcoholic, dealing with a lot of stresses. Last night he told me he would tell me what happened to him, the cause of his PTSD. Then he said that he would need a drink. He is in a situation where he has no money, working on getting disability with his parents helping him. He is around 40 and I have known him online for over a year now. I ended up wiring him so money for the sole purpose that he could by alcohol. This is the second time I ve... I Enabled Him To Drink

An Inability To Cry.

Sometimes I feel the need to cry to relieve emotions, other times because I m so upset/hurt/confused and crying is the natural response but no matter how huge the lump in my throat gets; no matter how hot,dry and prickly my eyes get; no matter how much my face and forehead scrunches up; even if I curl up in a ball or hide my face in a pillow the tears will not come and my shoulders won t relax and give into the crying that I really, really need to do. I haven t cried in over a year since... An Inability To Cry.

Is There Ever A Point Where Suicide Is The Best Option?

Last night I watched the video on here about young military men who returned and committed suicide, often shortly after having ptsd. I saw their family grieve and how they pleaded with government to take some responsibility. It was very sad to see these young men giving up, giving in, and taking their own life. If I had cancer, or a friend or relative did, and exhausted all treatment options unsuccessfully, I would not question their choice to stop the pain and commit suicide rather than... Nothing Good To Move On To

A lot of people that recover from PTSD or depression, usually do so by moving on to something good in their lives. An example is finding love. If you have nothing good to move on to with your life, you will never get better, only worse. I speak from experience. Sure you can swallow a tablet or attend therapy, but if you have nothing good to move on to with your life, treatments are limited.

Green Tea For Reducing Anxiety? Comments

A little background: my PTSD service pooch has Addisons Disease. Her adrenal glands don t produce the stress hormones cortisol and aldosterone. She is monitored for her electrolytes and gets a shot once a month of synthetic aldosterone. As well, she takes a .05mg of prednisone daily. If she has too much stress I can give her an extra prednisone, but we don t want to give her more prednisone than absolutely necessary due to its toxic effect on the kidneys and liver. Therapist In Training - What Advice Can You Give Me?

Hello everyone. I am therapist currently in my Masters program studying Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy. I am trying to research more on PTSD and thought this group of people would be able to teach me more than any book could. I have a general knowledge of PTSD and have learned what was taught in my grad program, but I would love to hear an insider perspective on anything you think will be relevant for me to know in my work as a therapist. I want to be as... Therapist In Training - What Advice Can You Give Me?

The traumatic event happend my first year of high school four days before the start of my first year my brother was involved with a bad girl and he attempted suicide I was the one who found him to my knowledge as a 13 year old he was dead but he infact lived which was a miracle because he took over 120 pills and tried to hang himself I was... Propranolol

So I have 20mg tablets, doc says I need to take two per day. I ve been kind of chicken to even start them. Any positive stories? negatives? I m taking it for hyperarousal. I know every person s experience is different and what works for some won t for others. I just can t decide if I should stick with what I know works or try something new.

Ichill App For Building Your Resilience

I am double posting -- I put this in Anxiety & Panic Attacks on the sufferer side of the forum, but us supporters need stress management tools, too. There is an application for Android and iPhones called iChill. It s in the Apple store and the Android market. My therapist pointed me to it. (It was created by the Trauma Resource Institute.) There are exercises you can use to strengthen inner resources for calming and grounding when you re not in a triggered or stressed out state, and it... Ichill App For Building Your Resilience

Financially Dependant

I live in a relatively rural part of the UK. Living here has helped a lot with my Ptsd, I used to love coming home from a busy day at work and the minute I got home, all the stress left me as I was surrounded by nature and my loving partner. We both love this life, as well as each other, we fit each other perfectly...no fights or argument, a deep respect for each other....a life many would want. In Nov I was made redundant...I had previously found myself unemployed while with my partner...I... Financially Dependant

Years Of Nightmares And Still Counting!

Nightmares are my most prevalent trigger and the one I can t avoid! I was on a plane that nearly crashed years ago, the latest in a series of traumatic episodes throughout my existence, and I have suffered from nightmares continuously since. They differ from night to night, but all have a common theme: being in an untenable situation that I have no power or control over. They have included falling off a cliff, landing up on death row, being pursued by dangerous street gangs -- just to name... Years Of Nightmares And Still Counting!

What Have You Done For You Today, As A Supporter.

It has been recommended that we can care for our loved ones better when we give ourselves a break, and go do something we like. Personally, sleep seems to be one of the only things I can do to escape. Not that I sleep excessively or anything, but every waking hour I m busy either working, or taking care of kids one way or another. It s not that my wife isn t the same way, but our schedules are so tied up with the responsibilites of life, that there is no "me" time. I do have two... Introducing Myself

Hi! I m a 20-year-old girl struggling with PTSD as a result of multiple prolonged traumas, starting off when I was too young to even remember and continuing in different forms until very recently. I m in CBT/PE and find it very helpful. I was just a kid the first time I asked for help (both for the abuse at home, the bullying at school and my own mental health), but even though I kept reaching out for help over and over for more than eight years no one took me seriously and most... Finally Went To Al-anon

I ve been away from the forum for quite a while, mostly because I haven t been giving myself time to do anything. I wanted to share today though that a few weeks ago I hit my rock bottom. I was losing all sorts of sleep and becoming all kinds of depressed, and that led to some really poor performance at work, resulting in me getting terminated. I ve never been fired before, and this had a big impact, especially with how many financial struggles I ve been having. My gut-shot reaction was... Finally Went To Al-anon

Cringing And Embarrassment

I am terribly embarrassed of everything I have ever done. There is not one part of my life I don t look back on and cringe. It s really difficult for me, has caused some of the worst self loathing I ve had. I ve shut myself in the house away from everyone because I don t want to make an embarrassment anymore. The main cringes are times where I ve felt confident then I ve looked back and felt I really shouldn t have been. It s really hard

What The Hell Is This?

When my spasms and pain release I get like flooded with energy. I feel GOOD, not particularly stressed out, but nearly passed out today because I have inner zoomies so bad...it was like a gush of adrenaline, likely with pulse and blood sugar elevated (I know because these are too high when I ve gone in to ER with similar symptoms and arrhythmia...they just wait for me to settle down). It sounds a bit bipolar, which I don t have, though I know I lean a bit to extremes and for me pain locks up... What The Hell Is This?

Nightmares About Dead Parents

Having frequent nightmares about my deceased parents. Both died from cancer and I took care of them watching them as they were dying. They usually appear in my dreams in a way that I know they are dead and asking myself in horror how they came back from the grave. Sense of guilt or just PTSD torment?

Scared My Therapist Will Drop Me

I have been in therapy for 3 years. My T diagnosed me with cPTSD and everything finally made sense. She really saved my life with her commitment to me. I recently had a session where uncomfortable things came up, I am not sure whether they are true or not, just appeared in my mind. I don t like to attribute potentially false meanings to random memories, nor was I encouraged to, so I chose to leave this where it is and haven t returned to therapy for several months. Running Away

It occurred to me today that each and every time I had issues somewhere that I could not sort out (which seemed to be everywhere), I had to run away to give myself relief. This has turned into a vicious cycle of having less and less tolerance, (cause this ain t my first rodeo anymore) and then booting it. I don t really seem to think through the booting it to where? issue and whether it would be good for me in the long run. I just hit the road. I was, during the time of my PTSD... Running Away

How Do You Support Your Sufferer When All Seems Hopeless?

So my husband (sufferer) and I s life has been turned upside down for a while now. Still living with my mother-in-law, but we re slowly on the track to get back on our own two feet and I m trying to do the best I can getting us there as he s kind of been in major freeze mode.
